Jamie Carragher has told Sky Sports that he thinks Liverpool need to bring in two new players in the summer transfer window, after the Reds suffered a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday evening.
A brace from Ilkay Gundogan and goals from Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden put Liverpool to the sword – who themselves only scored through a controversial Mo Salah penalty. Alisson was at fault for two of the goals.
The Liverpool teams remains largely unchanged from the side that won the Champions League in 2019, and then the Premier League last season. Many have been with Jurgen Klopp for a number of years now.
Liverpool legend Carragher believes his old club need to bring in two new signings that improve the starting XI in the summer, after watching what could prove to be a monumental result in the race for the Premier League title.
“It’s been the same players for the last four years,” Carragher noted. “They probably could do with a couple of players to freshen up the starting line-up. This team has been together since the Champions League final in Kiev.”

TBR’s view – Carragher is bang on
The Liverpool side look flat, deflated and without any kind of excitement. Without the added dimension of the Anfield supporters, Liverpool are struggling to provide the difference at the moment.
Clearly, relying on fans is something that Liverpool have done of late and they need to match the impact of the Anfield crowd on the pitch – with a couple of big-name signings that improve the starting XI.
Even if it costs an arm and a leg, the Reds need a new midfielder and perhaps a replacement for Roberto Firmino – to excite fans, freshen up the side and re-install the excitement that is currently lost.
