Jamie Carragher highlights what would be good about Leeds being back in top flight

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher hopes Leeds follow Sheffield United’s lead and earn promotion back to the Premier League.

In the Telegraph, Carragher said he wants to see the balance of power in the top flight tip back closer towards the north and feels Leeds getting promoted would make the league more interesting.

He said: “Leeds might add to the Yorkshire contingent by securing Premier League promotion. That will add more colour, emotion and – dare one say – interesting fixtures to the calendar. Such clubs bring passionate supporters who make the game more entertaining for neutrals.

“Bramall Lane is proof of that. It has been one of the most thrilling venues to watch Premier League football this season.”

TBR’s View – Premier League money has distorted the landscape

There are clubs such as Bournemouth, Brighton and Watford who do not have the history of Leeds but have used the riches on offer in the top flight to insulate themselves against relegation.

Since Leeds were relegated, the likes of Stoke and Swansea have done similar. The sheer scale of the money on offer in the top flight has allowed new sides to establish themselves in the top flight and also offers them a greater chance of promotion when they drop down.

But would having Leeds back in the top flight make for more entertaining fixtures, as Carragher says? It’s hard to disagree. Elland Road would be rocking if Leeds were back in the Premier League, perhaps creating an atmosphere better than some on offer in the top flight right now.
