Jamie Carragher has told Sky Sports that Mikel Arteta’s comments after Arsenal’s defeat to Tottenham left him flabbergasted.
The former Liverpool defender was speaking on Monday Night Football as he sat alongside former Arsenal hero Freddie Ljungberg to dissect the weekend’s action.
Goals from Son Heung-min and Harry Kane ensured local bragging right for Spurs and also put them back on top of the Premier League.

The defeat saw the Gunners drop to 15th place in the Premier League and Arteta is facing a fight to revive his team’s fortunes.
Carragher was dismayed by the Spaniard’s comments following his team’s latest defeat.
He told Sky Sports: “I couldn’t believe that interview. I could not believe some of the things I heard after the game.
“Arsenal did not play well. Arsenal were awful, defensively and with the ball, from minute one.
“This idea that because you have possession, you’ve played well – I’m flabbergasted when I hear it.”
TBR View – Arsenal boss has work to do
This wasn’t in the script for Mikel Arteta.
After steadying the ship in the Premier League and leading them to the FA Cup last season, it was anticipated they’d kick on this year.
That hasn’t been the case and already there is work to do.
Arsenal signed relatively well in the summer but something just hasn’t clicked yet.

Gabriel, Thomas Partey and the return of Dani Ceballos were supposed to give the Gunners a lift.
Instead, they appear to be regressing under Arteta and more emphasis needs to be placed on attacking.
Arsenal have been negative throughout the campaign and have struggled to find a creative spark.
Carragher is right with his comments regarding possession and Arteta needs to buck his ideas up sharply at the Emirates Stadium.
