Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher doesn’t expect Jurgen Klopp to sign a new Anfield contract, as per Pundit Arena.
Carragher pointed to the length of time Klopp has stayed at Borussia Dortmund and Mainz and feels the German boss may leave when his current deal expires in three years time.
He said: “This group of players have got to be looking at this next three or four years because Klopp’s got three years left on his contract. I’m not sure if he would sign another one. He’s only ever stayed at a club for seven years.
“You want the league, that’s the obvious one. They’ve got competitions this year, the World Club Cup, the Super Cup, just pick as much as you can before he goes. Hopefully, over the next two or three years, one of those will be the league for Klopp.”
The Telegraph report that talks over a new deal for Klopp have been delayed and while he reassured fans there’s no immediate danger of him leaving, it suggests he is considering not committing to another long-term contract.
Seven years at Anfield may prove to be enough given the stressful demands of modern management, and if Klopp delivers the Premier League back to Liverpool in that time, he’ll be deemed a success.
But it remains to be seen if Carragher’s fears come to fruition, but the signs are that Klopp isn’t falling over himself to pen a new long-term deal.
