Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has been discussing Everton’s chances of making the top six this season. Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night football the Merseysider, who is known to have a healthy respect for Everton, seemed to highlight three reasons why Everton might be able to challenge for the top six this season.
Whilst ultimately deciding that Everton were likely to only finish as high as seventh, Carra is clearly of the belief Everton will have a decent campaign.
“I like the manager and have always liked him since he was at Hull. They went down and he started well at Watford until Everton came in and it fell apart. There’s something I like about that manager when I see their teams play.
“Without the transfer business on the last day I thought he hadn’t brought enough in, but that has given everyone a lift and of course the two performances and results they have had were very good.
“Richarlison has come in and done well.”
No doubt the appointment of Marco Silva is a huge bonus. Everton wanted him before Sam Allardyce was brought in to paper over the cracks. He seems to have won over the dressing room quickly and Everton’s fans are already keen on the Portuguese boss.
Then there is the business on transfer deadline day. Everton strengthened numerous positions in the final hours of the transfer window. The arrivals of Yerry Mina and Kurt Zouma are particularly important, as they help to solidify a weak back-line.

Bernard and Andre Gomes are more like extra bonuses. The Brazilian will no doubt get his chances in attack whilst Gomes can provide able support in the heart of midfield.
Then there is Richarlison. It is clear the Brazilian loves playing for Silva, after his excellent starts at Watford and now at Goodison Park. If he keeps finding the back of the net, then Everton are surely in for the positive season Carragher predicts.
