Jamie Carragher confident of Liverpool win against Tottenham in Champions League final

Jamie Carragher is backing his former side Liverpool to be victorious in the Champions League final, but his only worry is that Tottenham’s name may already be on the trophy after their campaign in Europe.

The Reds lost to Real Madrid last season in Europe’s elite club competition, but are back at the weekend for another shot and manager Jurgen Klopp will be desperate to get over the line.

They narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City, but are favourites going into the weekend’s final.

Liverpool sensationally overturned a 3-0 deficit against Barcelona in the semi-finals en route to the final, but upcoming opponents Spurs also had a dramatic path.

Spurs dramatically beat Manchester City in the quarter-finals and then Ajax in the semi-finals with memorable nights.

Carragher expects Liverpool to have enough to win the all-English affair in Madrid, but is wary of the fairytale story for Mauricio Pochettino’s team.

“I am confident Liverpool will win if they play well. I think the only worry is Tottenham’s name on it, the way they’ve got there [to the final]. They haven’t had a great 2019 in the Premier League, but is there name on it?” Klopp told the Liverpool Echo.

“If Liverpool play anywhere near their best or anywhere near how they’ve played in 2019 I think they’ll win. Best team Liverpool have had for 30 years.”

TBR’s View:

Liverpool are rightly favourites to win the Champions League crown and they deserve a piece of silverware following their brilliant campaign.

But they still have to turn up and deliver one more time to get over the line, which is why it will be intriguing to see if the break between the final and the last day of the league season has impacted their momentum.

Spurs have done tremendously well to make it to Madrid given their obstacles and it looked like they wouldn’t qualify from their group at one stage in the Champions League season.
