Jamie Carragher has given a glowing verdict on the quality of Everton defender Ben Godfrey.
The Toffees signed Godfrey in the summer window for £20million (Sky Sports) from Norwich City, who were relegated from the Premier League last season.
Godfrey, 23, has made a huge impression during his first six months at Goodison Park, becoming a regular in Carlo Ancelotti’s XI.
The £77,000-a-week (Spotrac) centre-back prefers to play in the heart of his defence, but has shown his versatility this campaign to slot in at both full-back positions.
He enjoyed a run in the side at left-back covering for Lucas Digne, with his pace, power and intelligence making him flexible across defence.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher is majorly impressed by Godfrey and likes that he’s an “aggressive” defender.
“I think he was a late signing – £20million from Norwich – and I think he’s a brilliant signing,” Carragher said on Sky Sports’ Main Event channel (10:35pm, 8 February).
“You know when you just look at someone and they just look the part, he moves gracefully, he’s got those set of shoulders, he’s powerful and he’s aggressive. I think eventually going to play centre-back.”

TBR’s View:
It was unclear on if Godfrey would come straight into the Everton side, but injuries opened the door for him and he’s not looked back since his first opportunity.
The English defender went through a tough learning curve last year in the top-flight, as he was part of a Norwich team that were relegated.
But he’s looked the real deal so far in an Everton shirt, as he looks to help them trying quality for the European positions this season.
He’s got all the traits needed to be a defender, albeit he may need to learn to put a lid on his aggressiveness in the right moments.
