Jamie Carragher has suggested that Newcastle United’s attacker Miguel Almiron is dropped from the side following the defeat to Aston Villa on Monday night.
The Magpies suffered a 2-0 away loss in the Premier League, as manager Steve Bruce endured an unhappy return to his former club Villa.
Conor Hourihane opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with his free-kick, while Anwar El Ghazi added a second just four minutes later with a close-range finish.
Bruce’s Newcastle were unable to provide little attacking threat to try get back into the game and it means their two-game winning run before the international break is now over.
Sky Sports pundit has singled out Almiron for criticism and believes it’s now time for him to be axed from the XI.
The rapid winger has started all 13 league matches so far this season and played 23 matches since his arrival in January from MLS outfit Atlanta United.
But the 25-year-old has still not managed a goal or assist and got no closer on Monday night against Villa.
“I do think now it’s come to the stage where Almiron has to come out of the team,” Carragher told Sky Sports’ Main Event channel (10:25pm, 25 November).
“I actually in someways feel a little bit sorry for him. Last year when he come in you felt like he was trying too hard, but now you’re going to the stage where you’re thinking, you’re worried is there enough quality really to be in this team.
“To not get a goal or an assist that’s hard to do as an attacking player. I think it may now be time for him to come out.”

TBR’s View:
Almiron is on paper that should be a great attacking threat for Newcastle, but his goal drought can’t be overlooked for much longer and it was another disappointing contribution from him on Monday.
The Paraguay international can’t get over the barrier of his first Newcastle goal and the pressure is obvious when he gets the ball.
He’s part of a front three for the Magpies that are inconsistent and Dwight Gayle is perhaps a more clinical goalscorer that should be knocking on the door to start.
