Jamie Carragher claims Liverpool youngster Curtis Jones could help first-team

Jamie Carragher believes that Liverpool’s rising star Curtis Jones could end up being an answer for more creativity in the first-team’s midfield.

The 19-year-old is a product of the Reds academy that has come through the youth system and he’s beginning to get more senior minutes after a first-team debut last season.

He’s made seven senior appearances so far this campaign across all competition, which included becoming the club’s youngster ever captain when he lead out an inexperienced group in mid-week to beat Shrewsbury 1-0 in an FA Cup fourth round replay at Anfield.

Despite Liverpool storming towards a first Premier League title, Carragher feels one potential room for improvement in Jurgen Klopp’s team is the creativity in the centre of the park.

He has picked out teenager Jones as someone that could help plug that gap moving forward.

“Curtis has kicked on this year but that’s what young players do,” Carragher told the Liverpool Echo

“When he plays in the younger team, it almost looks like he’s a first-team player dropping down to play with the younger players.

“The one criticism of this Liverpool team is sometimes a lack of creativity from central midfield, and I think he could provide that.”

TBR’s View:

Jones certainly looks like he will become a first-team regular during the next couple of years at Anfield and is the latest big success story to come out of the academy, as he follows in the footsteps of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

He’s a central midfielder that has a real eye for goal, which has seen him score against Everton and Shrewsbury already in this season’s FA Cup.

The Liverpool-born star is a great dribbler that can push forward into more advanced areas, but it looks like he could add some extra flair in a Liverpool midfield that is full of real workhorses such as Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Georginio Wijnaldum.
