Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher, has claimed that Liverpool and Manchester City could be realistic destinations for PSG’s Kylian Mbappe.
The Frenchman was in sensational form this past week as he stuck a hat-trick past Barcelona in the Champions League. It cemented Mbappe’s reputation as one of the finest strikers on the planet.
Remarkably, Liverpool are being persistently linked with a move for Mbappe. His future at PSG remains unclear, with the Reds and Real Madrid being touted as potential destinations.
And Carragher, speaking to CBS Sports, believes Liverpool could be the perfect destination prior to any move to the Spanish capital.
“I’m not joking, it was based on the fact that Liverpool thought they had a decent chance of getting Mbappe when he was at Monaco,” Carragher said. (quotes via Football365)
“I think he will, guaranteed, play for Real Madrid at some stage in his career but I’d always feel that maybe Liverpool is that perfect destination for a player like that before you make that next step. It would be Liverpool or Manchester City because they are the two top teams you’d see in the Premier League.”
Given Mbappe would command a fee in and around the £200m mark if he did move, Liverpool would need some serious backing and funds to complete the deal. But ‘Carra’ has admitted that even he is buying into the idea it just might happen.
“There’s no doubt on social media, he’s put a couple of things out when Liverpool have been playing at home in the Champions League and it’s got us all a little bit excited,” Carragher added.
TBR View: Mbappe to Liverpool? Just wow
This would be one of the most ridiculously brilliant signings in recent times, it really would. If Mbappe lands on Merseyside with Liverpool, then it’s very much game on in terms of the Premier League title again.
Mbappe is simply stunning. He’s already one of the best players in Europe. Give it a few years, and he’ll be winning the Balon D’or. If Liverpool pull this off, the whole red half of the city will go into meltdown.
Given some of the superlatives thrown his way this week, Mbappe would improve Liverpool ten-fold.
