Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher says Arsenal must put Mesut Ozil back into their best eleven after his performance at Anfield last night.
Ozil got a rare start in the EFL Cup match against the champions of Europe and played a starring role before being substituted on 65 minutes and Carragher was impressed.
He told Sky Sports: “He was really good and his role in both goals was fantastic, he showed his class and composure. I’m not Ozil’s biggest fan but you cannot tell me he is not good enough to get into this Arsenal team. He has to be in their team or best XI.
“No one is doing anything consistent for Arsenal at the moment, not just Ozil. So many players are not at the top of their game that they almost have to put up with what Ozil doesn’t do. Play him against the likes of Crystal Palace, and see out games. If you look at the front three, I am sure they would love to have Ozil feeding them.”

TBR’s View – There has to be more of a role for Ozil at Arsenal
Even if Unai Emery doesn’t want to play Ozil in games where he demands more discipline, he has a role to play in helping Arsenal break down deep defences.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is making the most of limited service, but would surely love Ozil providing the bullets in certain matches.
Freezing him out of a squad which is low on experience and creativity makes no sense, especially not if Emery is going to dip him in and out in the cup competitions.
