Jamie Carragher has claimed that Everton are going to need new signing Moise Kean to light up Goodison Park in his debut year if the club are to break into the top-six of the Premier League.
The Toffees signed the centre-forward from Juventus this summer for £25.1million (BBC) and he’s arrived to fill the void in attack.
He is only a 19-year-old striker that is viewed as a real star for the future, but he’s had some success at senior level.
Kean has scored eight goals in 21 first-team games for Juventus and also netted twice in three senior international games for Italy.
The teenage sensation has only come off the bench in the opening two league fixtures for Marco Silva’s side, but all eyes will be on Friday night to see if he starts away to Aston Villa.
Carragher believes that the Merseyside club can have an opportunity to break into the Premier League’s elite if Kean settles quickly.
“I think the big thing will be the new signing Moise Kean. If he can be anything near what they want a centre-forward to be like at Everton and he can score maybe 15 league goals, I think that gives them a great chance [of breaking into the top-six],” Carragher said, as quoted by Sky Sports’ Premier League League Twitter account.
“I think if he doesn’t hit the ground running or have a great season I think it will always be difficult.”
It looks like only a matter of time before Kean gets a regular run of starts for Everton, as he’s an exciting addition to arrive in the summer and looks a great fit for the Premier League.
He’s a striker that has a physical presence and also pace, while he looks a more natural finisher than current Toffees striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Everton are going to need a lot from Kean during his first year in English football, but there is a lot of hype around him and he will get plenty of service.
Silva’s team will temporarily move to the top of the Premier League if they beat newly-promoted Villa and it looks like an ideal game to draft in Kean.
