Sky Sports pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville were left perplexed that Jurgen Klopp brought Sadio Mane off in the closing stages of Liverpool’s clash against Manchester City.
The African Cup of Nations winner scored Liverpool’s second equaliser of the game 46 seconds into the second half after latching onto Mohamed Salah’s through ball, and slotting the ball passed the on-rushing Ederson.
But in the 84th minute with the game finely poised, Klopp decided to bring on Roberto Firmino in place of the Senegalese international much to the surprise of Neville and Carragher.

While commentating on the game live on Sky Sports, Liverpool’s former defender said: “Mane has been a completely different player in the second half.
“I’m surprised he’s the man to come off.”
Agreeing with his former England teammate, Neville said: “I agree. He’s been good in the second half.”
Mane’s willingness to run in-behind and stretch City’s defence was causing Pep Guardiola’s side all sorts of problems and he may have fancied his chances of scoring a crucial winner.

The entertaining 2-2 draw means that Manchester City stay one point ahead of their rivals with seven Premier League games playing.
Both teams will square off against one and other on Saturday in an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.
