‘I’m convinced’: Alan Shearer and Jamie Carragher react to 20th minute moment as Liverpool beat Brighton

Liverpool comfortably saw off Brighton this afternoon to ensure they kept the pressure firmly on Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

Goals from Luis Diaz and Mo Salah proved enough for the Reds to take all three points as Brighton never really threatened barring the odd moment in the second 45 minutes. It was, in reality, a professional performance from the Reds and one which keeps them ticking along nicely.

Diaz’s opening goal created a bit of controversy though. The Colombian headed in as Robert Sanchez advanced and then wiped the Liverpool man out with a boot to the head. However, the goal stood and the referee and VAR chose not to go back and dish out any more punishment.

And over on Twitter, the moment between Diaz and Sanchez caused quite the reaction. Jamie Carragher believed Sanchez got away with it simply because the ball hit the net, while Alan Shearer was quick to laud the bravery of Diaz for getting on the end of Matip’s pass.

Diaz was once again remarkable throughout the game and showed everyone yet again why Liverpool shelled out the money they did in January for him.

For Brighton, meanwhile, they have now lost a few games on the bounce and Graham Potter will want to ensure the season doesn’t drift towards nothing.
