Jamie Carragher has admitted he was really impressed with Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli’s display against Liverpool.

Gabriel Martinelli got on the scoresheet as Arsenal picked up a statement 3-1 win over Liverpool on Sunday.

The 22-year-old benefitted from a mix-up by Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk to hand Arsenal a 2-1 lead in the 67th minute.

Martinelli was a constant threat for Mikel Arteta’s side on the day, with Trent Alexander-Arnold struggling to deal with the Brazilian.

Now, Jamie Carragher has admitted that he was impressed with the Arsenal winger’s display.

Carragher ‘impressed’ with Martinelli’s latest Arsenal display

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher singled out Martinelli for praise.

“I must say I was impressed with Martinelli on the fact that he took his own initiation, they have a plan from the manager, but sometimes you have to move off your own players,” the Liverpool legend said.

Of course, Carragher has received criticism after his reaction to Arsenal’s post-match celebrations on Sunday.

But the pundit was full of praise for Arteta’s side while discussing the game on Monday evening.

As for Martinelli, he often excels against Liverpool and the winger certainly didn’t disappoint on Sunday.

Indeed, Gary Neville labelled his display as ‘breathtaking’ after his directness and pace caused Liverpool huge problems.

Martinelli hasn’t exactly been at his best this season but he looked back to his usual self against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Arteta will be hopeful the Brazil star can rediscover his best form ahead of the business end of the campaign.

The win over Liverpool has put Arsenal right back in the mix for the Premier League title as they sit two points off Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Having Martinelli back at his best would be a huge boost for Arteta with just 15 games left in the league.
