Everton put in a spirited display at Anfield today despite seeing Liverpool run out 2-0 winners in the end and leaving the Toffees in the bottom three.
Frank Lampard was happy with what he saw from his side but, ultimately, the Toffees didn’t have enough to get the goals they needed to take something away from Anfield.

On the whole, though, the performance was better. And with just a handful of games left in the season, Everton might need more of this sort of performance to give themselves a chance. And those thoughts were echoed by Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports after the game, who accused the Toffees players of cheating their fans and manager.
“The Everton players have been cheating their manager and their fans this season. To put in a performance as good as that against one of the best teams in the world at the moment and at one of the hardest places to play football? They made it so difficult for Liverpool and had real fight today. They need to look at themselves because now they’re in the bottom three and they have to start fighting for their lives,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.
Burnley’s win against Wolves earlier in the day has left Everton two points adrift in the bottom three. Leeds play Crystal Palace tomorrow, too, and can put further breathing space between themselves and the relegation places with a win.
TBR’s View: Everton Finally Show Something For Lampard
It wasn’t amazing, but when you factor in you’re playing against Liverpool, it will give Lampard something to build on at least.
The Toffees showed some fight which is all the Everton fans want really. If they go down for not being good enough, then that is all well and good. But if it’s due to lack of effort, then Everton supporters will be fuming.
