With Steven Gerrard’s arrival at Ibrox this summer, plenty of change was in the offing at Rangers. One thing that seems likely was less emphasis on the young players coming through. Graeme Murty, having worked with the under-21s, was always more likely to give some of the younger players a chance.
That was certainly the case with Jamie Barjonas. Murty showed plenty of faith in the midfielder, who played semi-regularly after the sacking of Pedro Caixinha. Whilst the Portuguese may have handed the 19-year-old his Rangers debut, it was certainly Murty who showed faith in him.
In the summer, Gerrard decided Barjonas was not going to receive as much playing time under his tutelage.

With that in mind, he loaned the teenager out to English League Two side Bury. The central midfielder joined the club with the hope of proving himself in the Football League.
So far, he will have done little to catch Gerrard’s eye at Ibrox.
Barjonas has struggled for Bury. He has played just four times in the league for the club and is yet to start. His best moments have come in the EFL Trophy.
Bury currently sit ninth in the table and have their eyes on the playoffs, but the Rangers man is playing a supporting role.
His loan expires in January and it will be interesting to see if he remains at Gigg Lane. If not, his next move could be key in 2019.
