Rangers’ official Twitter account shared a picture yesterday evening, showing the club’s squad for the 2019-20 campaign.
Whilst Rangers’ season may have actually kicked off with a Europa League qualifier against St Joseph’s way back in July, the photo was always subject to change with the transfer window still open.
However, it appears the club got the photo done over the past week or so and they were very happy to share Steven Gerrard’s squad for the campaign on Twitter. They even showed some photos suggesting it was not a straightforward process getting all the players to behave for the photo.
Indeed, there were some interesting faces on show. Jamie Barjonas for example. The 20-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Bury and then Raith Rovers, is on the top-row far-left. He has had a great run of form with Graeme Murty’s under-23s recently but has not featured for the Rangers first-team since a 2-0 win over Motherwell in December 2017.
He did make the bench for one leg of the Europa League tie against Gibraltarian minnows St Josephs however and it is clear that he is still in Gerrard’s mind long-term.
Getting a game this season in Rangers’ midfield will be tough. With the likes of Ryan Jack, Steven Davis, Glenn Kamara, Andy King, and Greg Docherty all ahead of him in the pecking order, it might even seem impossible.
But being involved in the photo will hopefully give him a boost regarding his role at Rangers. If he can keep on thriving for Murty’s Colts, perhaps Gerrard might give him another Ibrox chance before the season is out.
