Jamie Barjonas has posted an emotional message on Instagram after it was confirmed that his Rangers contract – which expires on June 30 – would not be extended this summer. It sees a 14-year spell at Ibrox come to an end for the Gers academy product, and plenty have responded to his post.
Leeds-born Barjonas, 22, leaves Rangers with nine senior appearances to his name for his boyhood club – but under Steven Gerrard, he has failed to play even once this season for the Gers, despite appearing on the bench eight times. He did play six times on loan at Ayr United.
But the Scotland youth international now leaves Rangers after joining the club aged just eight, and has posted an emotional message on his social media channels. He has labelled the Rangers fans “unbelievable”, and recalled attending “Soccer Sundays” as a child in the academy.
The competition at Rangers in the middle of the park has proved too much. As Rangers continue to improve, Barjonas’ chances of breaking into the side have dissipated. Ryan Jack, Steven Davis, Joe Aribo, Scott Arfield, Glen Kamara and more are ahead of Barjonas in the pecking order.
Ally McCoist, Josh Windass and Nathan Patterson all responded to his post among others – with Windass recalling a celebration against Partick Thistle before wishing the midfielder well.
