James Tavernier has been commenting on his future at Rangers and it appears he has no intention of leaving Ibrox this summer.
The Rangers captain has been linked with a host of names in recent weeks. Over the weekend, it was claimed that Steve Bruce wanted to lure him back to boyhood club Newcastle United.
The Daily Mail claimed that Rangers might find it hard to reject a bid of £8 million for Steven Gerrard’s favoured captain.
But not only has Tavernier stated his intention to win silverware at Ibrox in his interview with The Herald, but he also namechecked Newcastle as not giving him a chance earlier in his career.
“I have always believed in my quality, even when I was younger. With the clubs I was at, Newcastle and Wigan, it didn’t work out for me.
“Rangers gave me a chance. The club have shown faith in me. I have been trying to repay that favour ever since which means working harder, getting better and better.
“It’s a compliment to be linked to other clubs. I see it. But all my emphasis is on Rangers. Things can happen in football, of course, but I’m looking forward to this season.”
Tavernier joined Newcastle from Leeds United as a teenager in 2008. Despite making the occasional first-team appearance, he spent most of his time on loan.
Tavernier had spells at Gateshead, Carlisle United, Sheffield Wednesday, MK Dons, Shrewsbury Town and Rotherham United before joining wigan Athletic for one season in 2014.

Since joining Rangers four years ago he has established himself as one of Scottish football’s finest players and Ibrox fans would have been devastated to see him leave the club.
Tavernier, who scored 17 goals and assisted 20 from right-back last season, does not sound like a man trying to escape Glasgow this summer.
Rangers fans will no doubt love to hear that.
