Liverpool vice-captain James Milner went the extra mile to inspire Neil Critchley’s young side to their FA Cup fourth round replay victory over Shrewsbury last night.
As per the Daily Mail, Milner asked Critchley if he could be involved and trained with the young guns ahead of the match at Anfield.
He also apparently gave a team talk ahead of the match, which he attended while Reds boss Jurgen Klopp remained absent, as promised.
Critchley said of Milner: “He is totally respectful and professional. He was giving words of advice.”
TBR’s View – Milner typifies the standards Liverpool demand
Milner earns £140,000 every week according to Spotrac and at 34 years of age, would be most entitled to a hard-earned winter break during a busy season.
The former Leeds man is also recovering from an injury but he trained with the kids to try and get them ready for their big night at Anfield.
That shows the standards of professionalism that Milner has set for himself and also that this 2020 version of Liverpool demand.
That’s why their shadow sides are able to rise to big challenges. There are such high standards throughout the club and that thread runs from the most experienced, like Milner, all the way through to the youngsters who took to the pitch last night.
