James Milner praises one Liverpool star’s performance in Leeds draw

James Milner singled out Liverpool teammate Alisson Becker for praise after his display last night in the Premier League.

The Reds travelled to Elland Road on Monday to face Leeds United amid all the controversy around the proposed European Super League.

Liverpool’s aim this season is still to finish in the top four of the league, and their hopes suffered a dent following a 1-1 draw against Leeds.

Sadio Mane put the Merseyside club ahead with his goal in the first half. However, centre-back Diego Llorente headed in an equaliser from a corner kick in the 87th minute for a Leeds team that applied a lot of pressure to earn their point.

It means that Jurgen Klopp’s side stay sixth in the league standings, and will find themselves four points adrift of the top four if Chelsea beat Brighton on Tuesday night.

Liverpool midfielder Milner, 35, decided to mention his goalkeeper Alisson for his work against Leeds.

The 28-year-old shot-stopper made some eye-catching saves from the likes of Tyler Roberts, Patrick Bamford and Jack Harrison to keep the visitors in the contest.

“Ali made some great saves but they had chances so maybe a draw is a fair result in the end,” Milner said, as quoted by the club’s official website.

If you look at Alisson’s form since he moved to Anfield back in 2018, he’s rightfully been in the thick of the conversation for the best goalkeeper in the world.

The Brazilian would surely admit that his standards have dipped slightly with some uncharacteristic mistakes, but he was on his A-game last night.

It’s been a difficult season for Liverpool, especially with their injuries in defence, but they know they still have a world-class operator in-between the sticks that is so hard to beat on his day.
