James Milner posts Throwback Thursday tweet ahead of Manchester United clash

James Milner once told FourFourTwo that he was brought up in a house with such a dislike of Manchester United that he was banned from wearing red as a child.

And his career has taken him to United’s three biggest historical rivals, Leeds United, Manchester City and obviously now Liverpool.

The Reds host United on Sunday, where in Milner’s absence though injury, his team-mates will try and keep their Premier League unbeaten record going and get one over on their rivals.

Ahead of that clash, Milner has posted a throwback tweet of a picture of him celebrating his goal at Old Trafford in 2017.

That clash ended in a 1-1 draw but the Reds are clear favourites for the weekend meeting and won the corresponding fixture 3-1 last season.

Milner will be among the leaders in the dressing room ensuring that the importance of the fixture is not long on any of his team-mates.

The way they’re playing, they should beat United comfortably. There seems to be a mental block on the Reds at Old Trafford but that’s not the case between the sides at Anfield.

There’s every chance Milner will have another victory to celebrate come Sunday evening, when he might get another chance to wind up the United fans once more.
