Liverpool midfielder James Milner says talks have gone quiet over a new Anfield contract, but feels he still has plenty to give, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Milner earns £140,000 a week with the Reds, according to Spotrac, but said there has been a delay in agreeing a new deal despite how happy he is at the club.
He said: “As it stands, last year we spoke to the club and asked them if they wanted to do something and they said not at that time. We haven’t heard anything since, so that’s where we are at. I haven’t heard anything from the club.
“Everyone pipes on about my age but… there are three things to it; availability, fitness and performance. Hopefully I am delivering all three.”
Milner had another strong season for the Reds last year and his energy and leadership are invaluable in terms of setting the standard at a club who want to use their Champions League win to build a dynasty.
It’s a slightly odd one that a player as professional as Milner – who keeps himself fighting fit and is unlikely to decline rapidly after extending – hasn’t been tied down.
The midfielder appears relaxed about it and settled where he is – but it might be an idea for Liverpool to get back on the trail of agreeing a new deal.
