Ismaila Soro starred for Celtic on Thursday night as the Scottish champions produced a decent performance to beat French outfit Lille in a Europa League dead rubber – and the African midfielder earned praise from James McFadden and Ally McCoist.
Soro, 22, had only been previously used four times by Neil Lennon since his £2million (Sun) move to Parkhead in the January window. But he was given a start on Thursday night against an exciting Lille side that have spent plenty of cash of late.
But Soro was outstanding. Playing over Scott Brown, alongside Callum McGregor, the African ace looked excellent – keeping the ball well, making numerous tackles and blocks and positionally was near perfect. He added a midfield energy, recently lacking.
McFadden gave an instant verdict during his coverage on BBC Sport’s live online coverage of the game, while Rangers legend McCoist stated he was very impressed with £6,5000-a-week (Sport1) Soro – following Celtic’s excellent 3-2 win over Lille.
