Tottenham Hotspur take on Leicester City this afternoon hoping to hang on to their place in the Premier League title race. Whilst this season remains at the forefront of Tottenham minds, they must also be starting to plan for next season.
Spurs have not made a single signing in the current campaign. That will surely have to change in the summer. One man reportedly on their radar is James Maddison. As reported by The Mirror earlier this week, the talented Englishman is being targeted as a potential homegrown replacement should Christian Eriksen depart.
Maddison was also linked with Spurs in the summer. As reported by the London Evening Standard, Tottenham decided against the move as they were moving away from their practice of buying from the Football League.
Maddison, who eventually joined Leicester in a £24 million deal (Daily Mail), has now proven he is capable of pulling his weight in the top-flight.
Today he will hope to show Mauricio Pochettino he is worth a renewed pursuit in the summer. Spurs face Leicester City at Wembley this afternoon with Maddison hoping to continue his fine season.
With his energetic style, excellent dead-ball delivery and eye for a scything pass, it is no wonder he is being considered a potential next Eriksen. If he can prove himself at Wembley this afternoon Tottenham will surely be in touch come the summer.
