Cristian Romero has signed a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Argentine is one of Spurs’ most important players, and he is among the biggest reasons why they won the Europa League in May.

However, despite the trophy, Romero was expected to leave Tottenham this summer following the sacking of Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs fans were really worried about their star centre-half at the time, but they can all breathe a huge sigh of relief now.

Tottenham fans will love what James Maddison has said about Cristian Romero

Cristian Romero has had a very interesting few months at Tottenham.

He helped Spurs win the Europa League and was then publicly courted by Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid earlier in this window.

Then, Thomas Frank made Romero the captain of Tottenham following the departure of Son Heung-min to the United States.

Now, in what is the biggest news yet for Spurs fans, their skipper has put pen to paper over a new deal, and that should end all the speculation surrounding his future.

After the announcement about his new contract, James Maddison, who was delighted, branded Romero as the ‘best centre half in (the) world’.

He replied under Romero’s post: “Buzzin! Best centre half in world!”

Dominic Solanke wrote, ‘Capitano,’ while Romero’s centre-back partner Micky van de Ven replied with an emoji.

Cristian Romero explains why he extended his contract at Tottenham

Romero has had a lot to think about over the summer.

The Argentine was linked with moves to clubs like Real Madrid, which is special for any player, irrespective of the club they play for.

However, Romero revealed after signing his new deal that he chose to stay at Spurs because he feels they are better than every other team.

He told Tottenham’s official website: “Honestly, the last two weeks, first captain, now a new contract with the club, I’m very, very happy.

“For me, it’s a fantastic decision. Now we start together again. I’m very happy at the club. For me, this club is the best in the world. For this, I extend my contract.”
