Jesse Lingard kickstarted his loan at West Ham in perfect fashion in midweek, as he scored two goals on his Hammers debut.

The on-loan Manchester United star netted twice in West Ham’s 3-1 away win against Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Lingard has spent the majority of the 2020/21 season so far watching from the stands at Man United, which is why they allowed him to depart on loan.

The attacking midfielder has joined David Moyes’ in-form team, who are currently fifth in the league table and are firmly eyeing a European finish this year.

He came straight into the XI on Wednesday night in the creative number 10 position and he linked up superbly with striker Michail Antonio, as well as showing some great moments with winger Said Benrahma, too.

Lingard received a load of responses on social media to his Instagram post after the game, including from Leicester City’s James Maddison and Inter Milan’s Ashley Young.

TBR’s View:

Lingard, 28, visibly looked over the moon to be back on the football pitch and he could be about to embark on the second stage of his career.

After producing some great individual moments for both Man United and England, he’s had an extremely difficult couple of years where his form has dipped massively and he’s lost all consistency.

But his West Ham performance showed the kind of spark he’s been missing and he plays with a real arrogance when he’s at his best.

It seems like a weight has been lifted off his shoulders and West Ham may be the ones to benefit.
