Jamal Lewis ribs Newcastle United team-mate Jacob Murphy for wearing gloves already

Newcastle United have had a fairly decent start to the season, currently sitting 11th in the table after a recent win over Everton in their latest fixture in the Premier League.

One of the key reasons has been some shrewd transfer business from the club in the summer. One of the main recruits was left-back Jamal Lewis. Sky Sports has reported that Lewis cost £13.5 million for the Magpies this summer and he has made an immediate impact.

Lewis has featured in all seven Premier League games for the club so far this season, starting all but one of them.

One of the more surprising success stories of the season has been Jacob Murphy. The returning loanee, who had a great spell at Sheffield Wednesday last term, has been featuring in the first-team and even operating on the opposite flank to Lewis in a defensive role.

The duo both came through the ranks at Norwich together, but that has not stopped Lewis giving his pal some stick on Twitter this week.

Lewis was shocked to see that Murphy is already in gloves at the start of November.

Of course, Newcastle fans are a hardened type and might indeed take exception to gloves being worn on the football pitch at all, or at least not until late December or January.

But if Murphy and Lewis can both continue to have a positive impact on Newcastle’s results, fans will likely not care what they wear while doing so.
