A report from 90min is suggesting that Newcastle United could make multiple moves for British-based talent once their Saudi-backed takeover is completed.
It is suggested that the likes of John McGinn, Todd Cantwell, and even John Stones could be on the agenda.
Another name on the list is Chris Smalling. The Manchester United star is currently on loan at Roma and, as reported by Metro in March, is available at £25 million this summer.
However, one man who would argue that is money not worth spending might be Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles.

Back in February 2018, after Newcastle had defeated the Red Devils 1-0, Lascelles insisted to The Independent that Smalling, along with centre-back partner Phil Jones, did not know what to do with the ball when put under pressure by Newcastle’s forwards.
“First-half, they were making a lot of mistakes, giving the ball away. I think it was down to our pressing, being aggressive and on the front foot. And obviously, they didn’t like it. I could see their centre-halves on the ball, and didn’t know what to do with it. I don’t think they were at it from the start. A lot of their players were missing.”
In fact, Smalling has found himself called out for the same thing in the past. For example, there is a reason Gareth Southgate immediately cast him out of the England team when taking over.
Lascelles, many would suggest, is a superior option to Smalling anyway and would not fear losing his place should Newcastle go ahead and sign him.
But it sounds like he might also appreciate a different centre-back partner.
