Newly appointed Rangers boss Steven Gerrard clearly had one area of the field he wanted to improve this summer. The Liverpool legend did plenty to improve the centre-back position throughout the summer. Rangers signed the likes of Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic, Joe Worrall and Gareth McAuley to improve an area the new Rangers boss felt was weak.
But there is no doubt that Gerrard wanted another central defender in Glasgow. Rangers were heavily linked with a move for Millwall defender Jake Cooper this summer.

As reported by the London Evening Standard, Rangers had a £3 million bid for the player rejected in June. The London club made it clear Cooper was not for sale and the Ibrox club moved on.
Cooper would no doubt have been hoping for some sustained success at the New Den. Millwall had just missed out on the playoffs last season and were hoping to build upon that success.
However, it looks like their battle might be at the other end of the table this season. Millwall have struggled to find any form this season and are currently fourth from bottom in the Championship.
Meanwhile, Rangers look an improved outfit and are also set for a campaign in the Europa League.
Cooper was no doubt happy to remain with his current club. But given the start to the season, there is surely a hint of regret that he did not get a chance to properly discuss a move to Glasgow with the new Rangers manager.
