Jadon Sancho is heading to Aston Villa from Manchester United, with the English winger set to join Unai Emery’s side on a season-long loan.

Sancho has been a major issue for United in this transfer window, with the £73m signing reluctant to move elsewhere despite strong interest.

Chelsea, Roma and Napoli were all reported by TBR Football to be close to agreeing deals, but nothing materialised due to Sancho’s high wage demands.

Now, however, a breakthrough has been reached, with Villa and United agreeing on a loan arrangement that works for both parties.

Exclusive: Rashford spoke to Sancho before Aston Villa move

Marcus Rashford, of course, enjoyed a loan spell at Aston Villa last season – a stint that ultimately earned him a big move to Barcelona.

According to TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey, Rashford spoke to Sancho before the deal was finalised and gave a glowing endorsement of life at Villa Park.

Bailey explained: “I am told that Sancho has spoken to Marcus Rashford before completing this deal – he wanted to make sure about the lie of the land.

“And Rashford was glowing in his support of the move. He told him what to expect, and that has played a part in Sancho deciding to make this move.”

Can Sancho rediscover his best form away from Manchester United?

Sancho’s talent has never been in question, but he has struggled to consistently deliver in recent years. There were brief flashes of quality during his time at Manchester United, but nothing sustained enough to justify his price tag.

Unai Emery has built a reputation for reviving careers and getting the best out of talented but inconsistent players.

Sancho will be seen as a gamble, but also as the type of dynamic, pacey attacker Villa desperately need after a stuttering start to the season.

Whether the 25-year-old can replicate the form he once showed in the Bundesliga remains to be seen, but he is set to become a Villa player before the transfer deadline slams shut.
