Florian Lejeune has confirmed on Instagram that he has suffered a second anterior cruciate ligament within the space of two seasons – which has prompted Jacob Murphy and Massadio Haidara to send their best wishes to the Newcastle United defender.
The 27-year-old suffered the first long-term knee injury in pre-season before the 2018-19 campaign. He returned earlier this year, making his Premier League return in the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea.
He managed just 12 Premier League appearances before the Frenchman suffered his latest blow. Just 65 minutes into the 1-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace, Lejeune suffered the same injury – but to his other leg.
The former Manchester City defender stated that he had suffered another ACL injury on his Instagram. Former Toon star Haidara and West Brom loanee Murphy sent messages to the colossal defender.

TBR’s view
Newcastle are a stronger side with Lejeune in the team. The French star is excellent in the air, able to organise a defence alongside Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar.
But what Rafa Benitez has changed, is that Lejeune can play with the ball at his feet. Federico Fernandez is an adept replacement, but the Argentine does not have the same impact as Lejeune does.
Newcastle did not need to sign a centre-back in the upcoming window. Now, they do.
