Former Arsenal and England midfielder, Jack Wilshere, has claimed that he’d pick Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney over Tottenham striker Harry Kane if he had to do so.
Kane and Rooney are two of England’s best ever strikers. Rooney is currently clear in being the record goalscorer. But with time on his side and having already struck 41 times, Kane is well on course to smash Rooney’s total.
England face Albania tonight looking to seal World Cup qualification. It’s a game Kane will fancy as well, in terms of adding to his tally.

However, when pressed on Talksport who he’d pick out of the pair, former Gunner Wilshere was under no illusions when it came to Rooney.
“I’m going to have to say Wazza,” Wilshere said.
“He was unplayable. At 16? No. (I’ve never seen anyone better). He’d just pick up and get angry in training. He’d just drive past three or four players and just smash it in. Just gets angry and then, bang.”
Rooney currently sits on 53 England goals having made an impressive 120 appearances for the Three Lions.
TBR’s View: Rooney a one in a generation talent, despite how good Kane is
These questions are always great, especially when it’s being answered by someone who has played with both.
In fairness, you have to agree with Wilshere as well. Rooney was a freak of nature at times. His power, touch, and speed, coupled with his longevity, make him one of England’s all-time greats.
Of course, Harry Kane is his own man and a very good footballer in his own right. But is he on Rooney’s level? Probably nowhere near.
It’s just a shame that England didn’t see them together as a prime attacking duo. That would have been quite the sight, and England might well have had their hands on a trophy.
