Jack Wilshere and Darren Bent spoke about Liverpool star Diogo Jota and the season he has had in the Premier League so far this season.
The Portugal international, signed from Wolverhampton Wanderers for an initial £41 million last year (BBC), has been brilliant for the Reds. In 52 appearances under Jurgen Klopp, he has scored 25 goals, which is a very good record.
A few eyebrows were raised when Liverpool forked out the big bucks for Jota in 2020. Not many were convinced that he was worth over £40 million, but the Reds’ recruitment team have been proved right yet again.
Wilshere and Bent raved about Jota on TalkSport yesterday and the former believes that the Liverpool man’s value has risen up to over £70 million now.
Jack Wilshere: Liverpool star Diogo Jota is worth over £70m now
The ex-Arsenal man said: “I think he had something different in terms of when they play with Firmino up top, Firmino would drop deep but he seems to be a little different to that. He’s a goalscorer, he has that knack, Benty would know more about it when you’re in the right place at the right time.
“(He’s worth) £70 odd (million) I’d say – he’s (at) a great age (25-years-old).”
Bent added: “You got to say again well played to Liverpool the recruitment because I always thought he was a good player. When they first signed him, he was on absolute fire, wasn’t he? Then he had that injury and it kind of railroaded him a little bit.
“But he’s come back this season fantastic and, at one stage, it was almost like blasphemy that anyone could upset that front three, Firmino, Salah, and Mane. It was always them three, whoever comes in is going to have to play backup but he’s gone in there and shown no fear.”

TBR View:
Not many people would’ve imagined that Liverpool would sign a player capable of replacing one of Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino. Those two were undisputed starters under Klopp, but that’s no longer the case.
Jota has been pushing for a place in the starting lineup ever since he arrived. He had to wait for his chance, but his numbers since his big move last year are absolutely phenomenal, and the fact that he’s still only 25 means that he’ll become a mainstay in the side for a long, long time.
The Portugal international has scored 12 times already this season and we’re yet to reach the halfway mark. He could double his tally, if not more, by the end of the campaign, and that will give Liverpool a massive boost in their bid to win the title again.
