Jack Wilshere says Arsenal have a talent in their ranks who's got 'everyone' talking in training
Arsenal prodigy Charlie Patino has got plenty of people talking in recent months thanks to his incredible quality and potential.
Now, Jack Wilshere – a player who some fans have compared Patino to – has become the latest to wax lyrical about the Gunners gem.
Patino is one of the most highly rated players at Hale End, which boosts plenty of top youngsters who look destined for success.
Known for his technical ability and agility in midfield, the 17-year-old has often played for higher age groups.
As a 14-year-old, he captained England’s Under-16s against Spain and made his debut for Arsenal’s Under-18s against Chelsea.
Last season, Patino earned promotion to the Under-23s – a great achievement considering his age – and made four appearances.
And this term, he’s not only featuring regularly for the Under-23s but standing out – surely proof that a senior debut is not far away.
Arsenal gem “is going to make a name for himself” – Wilshere
Wilshere, currently a free agent training at his former club, has spoken to The Independent about Patino.
“I know him. I’ve seen him play and he’s a good player,” Wilshere said.
“He’s obviously really young still and got a lot of developing to do but he’s definitely one who everyone at the training ground is talking about.
“The first-team players know who he is and he is a good player and one for the future for sure.”
When asked about comparisons between himself and Patino, Wilshere replied: “Yes, there are some similarities.
“There are quite a few but he is a different player as well and I think it is important people see him for who he is rather than say: ‘oh he is the next Jack Wilshere’.
“He has certainly got some qualities I didn’t have and there are things he needs to work on but he is going to make a name for himself in the future.”
Arsenal are back in action on Monday night when they host Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s Under-23s have a trip to Liverpool to take on the Anfield side’s U23s on Saturday afternoon.
