Jack Wilshere was amongst those to send a message of support to Tomas Soucek, as the West Ham United midfielder took to Instagram following his controversial red card on Saturday.
Soucek was dismissed in the final moments of the Hammers’ draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage. Mike Dean’s attention was drawn to an incident involving the 25-year-old and Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Soucek’s elbow had made contact with Mitrovic’s face. However, a look on social media would suggest that the very large majority of those who watched the game felt that it was an accident.
It appeared that Soucek was raising his arm to get away from the Fulham forward. There was no swing of the elbow. And there certainly seemed to be no intent whatsoever.

Nevertheless, Dean decided – after viewing the incident several times – to send the Czech Republic international off.
It is not the first red card Dean has dished out this week. He also dismissed two Southampton players at Manchester United a few days ago.
One of those dismissals – which came after the official spent a while at the monitor – has since been overturned. And in truth, history should be about to repeat itself.
Soucek demonstrated his class on social media after the game. The midfielder praised Mitrovic for defending him to Dean. And while he defended himself, he hardly hit out at the decision…
In response, Wilshere was amongst those to suggest that the referee had messed up…
