West Ham confirmed on Monday night the departure of midfielder Jack Wilshere – and he’s posted a farewell message on Instagram.
The Hammers announced on their official website that they have mutually agreed with the 28-year-old to terminate his contract at the London Stadium.
Despite joining back in the 2018 summer transfer window, he’s only managed 19 first-team games for the club and he’s now available as a free agent.
The left-footed central midfielder was once a brilliant talent at Arsenal and he’s earned 34 senior international caps for England, but he’s now officially departed and was clearly not a part of David Moyes’ plans.
Wilshere sent a message on social media following the announcement of his exit and one interesting line was that he’s been “fully ft” for the last eight months and not been given the chance.
He did feature in a Carabao Cup fixture against Hull City earlier this season, but asides from that wasn’t a part of any matchday squad.
TBR’s View:
It could be argued that it made sense for West Ham to keep Wilshere this summer considering he was entering the final year of his contract and was an option for the squad, but they clearly couldn’t sell him and it looks like he’s desperate to play regular first-team football elsewhere.
It will be interesting to see if any Premier League teams will be willing to take a punt on him given his poor injury record and aged 28 he may still feel he can achieve something with a new club.
