Jack Wilshere to Rangers was one of those transfer rumours that never seemed to go away. The links between Wilshere and Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard through England duty meant Rangers were always going to be in the orbit of Wilhere transfer news after the former prodigy found himself a free agent last year.
Reports circulated for a number of weeks suggesting that Rangers boss Gerrard might be interested in luring Wilshere to Ibrox but a move to Glasgow never happened.
For the most part, it seemed like the reports always were more on the side of rumour than genuine interest.
Now, the player himself has confirmed that there was never any contact from Rangers, Gerrard, or any Ibrox official about a potential move north of the border.
Speaking in a Q&A session on his Twitter account, Wilshere stated that Gerrard and Rangers were never in contact whilst he was available on a free transfer.

That is, of course no longer the case. Wilshere recently joined Bournemouth, a former loan club, on a permanent basis following his spell on the free agency list.
Rangers fans would undoubtedly have loved to have a player once backed so heavily by Gerrard on their books. Back in 2013, Gerrard dubbed Wilshere as a future England captain.
“Jack is so good I am sure when he gets to my age he will be in my position with the armband on talking about another 100-cap player,” Gerrard told the BBC. “I’m really paranoid about putting too much pressure on any player but he is that good there is nothing for him to worry about.”
Of course, Wilshere’s career has since been decimated by injury, and Gerrard bringing him to Ibrox would have been too high a risk considering what would be a significant wage packet.
Hopefully, Wilshere can rediscover his best form at his new club, but Rangers fans will not be losing any sleep over deciding to avoid this transfer gamble.
