Jack Wilshere claims that there is a real difference at West Ham this season in terms of the quality in the squad.
The Hammers did suffer a 2-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace at the weekend to make it a disappointing way to go into the international break, but they can still reflect on a fairly positive start.
Manuel Pellegrini’s team are eighth in the Premier League table as it stands and the European spots definitely look up for grabs if they can find some consistency at the London Stadium.
Wilshere, 27, is adamant that they now have a stronger squad and feels the completion for places has been cranked up.
Sebastien Haller, Pablo Fornals and Roberto were some of the new arrivals to boost the squad options in the summer.
“We started well and got a good team, a good squad as well that’s the difference this year,” Wilshere said, as quoted by Ian Abraham’s Instagram account.
“There are two players, two good players in each position so you have to be on it training. And when you are given the opportunity you’ve got to take it.”
West Ham certainly appear to have a group that should be challenging around the top six positions, especially with Manchester United struggling.
The Hammers had an excellent bench to call on at the weekend, with the likes of Wilshere, Fornals, Fabian Balbuena and Robert Snodgrass available to them.
Pellegrini’s team will know a lot more about themselves after their next four league fixtures, as they face West Ham, Sheffield United, Newcastle United and Burnley.
It’s a run of games that gives them a great opportunity to pick up points and get them right in the mix towards the top end of the table.
