In the summer Tottenham Hotspur were heavily linked with a move for Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish.
As reported by Sky Sports, Tottenham failed with a £25 million bid for the midfielder. The player was expected to be sold due to Aston Villa’s financial problems. However, Tony Xia eventually sold the club and Aston Villa managed to keep the player.
In fact, Grealish ended up signing a new deal at Villa Park. That deal is believed to have a release clause, which The Times suggests is in the region of £45 million.

That sort of valuation could be considered inflated by some. However, just looking at Aston Villa’s struggles since Grealish has been out with an injury highlights just how valuable he is.
Prior to the 23-year-old suffering his mystery shin injury in December, Aston Villa were charging up the Championship table. But in the 12 games in the Championship, since he suffered the injury, Aston Villa have struggled. They have won two of those games and have fallen further out of play-off contention.
He is certainly looking like a player worth his new £45 million price-tag.
