New Aston Villa manager Unai Emery couldn’t have dreamt of a better start to life at Villa Park yesterday.

Their 3-1 win over Manchester United was their first home league win over the Red Devils since 1995.

Emery couldn’t have asked to a better start to the match, as Villa took a 2-0 lead within the first 11 minutes.

Leon Bailey and Lucas Digne’s early goals immediately put the away side on the back foot.

They were pegged back just before half-time, when a Luke Shaw effort was deflected past Emi Martinez by Jacob Ramsey.

However, the young midfielder made amends in the second-half, putting the game to bed with a fantastic finish.

Ramsey’s emphatic side foot finish into the top corner meant the 21-year-old recorded a goal, assist and own goal yesterday.

It was an impressive performance from Ramsey that caught the attention of his teammates, and former Villa man Jack Grealish.

Grealish impressed with Ramsey’s performance

Ramsey took to Instagram after the match to celebrate a massive win for Aston Villa.

The midfielder simply said, ‘Big W’, and his Aston Villa teammates rushed to congratulate him.

Martinez thought he was a star, while Digne and Bailey thought he was on fire.

And Grealish was clearly impressed by Ramsey and loved the performance from the Villa academy product.

It’s no surprise Grealish is keeping a close eye on his former side given his connection to the club.

He’ll be very happy to see Ramsey thriving after he was dropped from the starting for Villa’s last two games.

Jamie Carragher has backed Ramsey to go right to the very top, an opinion plenty of Villa fans will agree with.

It will be up to Emery to try and get the best out of Ramsey, who has gone from strength to strength since making his Villa league debut in 2020.

Villa will have to hope that Grealish doesn’t tell Manchester City to consider a move for the ‘top class’ midfielder.
