'Energetic': Grealish blown away by how high-intensity one West Ham player is
West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice is the most energetic player in the England setup, according to Jack Grealish.
The Hammers captain is in the Three Lions squad ahead of Euro 2020, which takes place this summer.
Rice has been superb for club and country over the past few years.
The 22-year-old has already clocked up 144 competitive senior appearances for West Ham.
Rice also has 17 caps for England and is likely to add to his tally over the next few weeks.
When asked on England’s TikTok who he thought was the most energetic player in the ranks, Grealish had just one name in mind.
“Energetic… Declan Rice,” said the captain of the other big claret-and-blue club.
“Keep a balance”
Rice will likely be a certain starter when England get their campaign underway against Croatia on Sunday 13 June.
Gareth Southgate has shared his admiration for the leadership role Rice plays with the Hammers at such a young age.
He has also spoken to the Premier League midfielder about the danger of taking on too much responsibility.
“He’s captain of West Ham at 21. This season has been incredible for them, the year before last, not so good,” the England manager told the High Performance Podcast.
“He was out there, out the front at 20, 21 years old and I’m thinking ‘where’s some of the other players?’
“But what I said to him was, ‘Look, these are brilliant experiences for you.
“I like the fact that you’re standing, you feel the responsibility.
“You’re not ducking after a bad performance, you’re not looking to push the blame elsewhere.
“If anything, you’ve actually taken a bit too much on your shoulders. So keep a balance on that.’
“But I think reinforcing that, that’s a good thing hopefully encourages him to keep doing it.
“So it’s easy to pick up when people aren’t doing those things, isn’t it?
“But if you can find them doing it well, I think that’s equally if not more powerful.”
West Ham and England have a real star in their ranks – TBR View
Rice has achieved so much at just 22, closing in on 150 senior appearances for West Ham.
He’s also likely to feature plentifully for an England side hoping to improve on their fourth-place finish at the 2018 World Cup.
The Hammers and the Three Lions have a real star in their ranks who can hopefully help both to achieve success and win silverware.
