Jack Grealish and Serge Aurier praise for Tottenham star, after Liverpool draw

Dele Alli was handed a surprise start by Antonio Conte on Sunday evening against Liverpool, as Tottenham earned an excellent 2-2 draw. Jack Grealish and Serge Aurier have heaped praise on the Tottenham midfielder.

Dele, 25, started the first six Premier League matches for Tottenham this season – as Nuno Espirito Santo tried to mould him into a deeper midfielder. But it did not work, and he was hooked at Arsenal in September.

Since that game, the England international has been made to wait – feeding off scraps in the Premier League, and starting games in the Europa Conference League. But on Sunday, Dele was handed a start.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was missing, and Oliver Skipp – one of the players to test positive – was only fit enough to play for 30 minutes. So, Tanguy Ndombele, Dele and Harry Winks formed a three-man midfield for Spurs.

A brilliant display, Dele saw what looked an almost-certain goal tipped round the post by Alisson in the first half. Tottenham could have easily scored five or six, and Dele has posted on Instagram after the match.

Grealish and Aurier react: Tottenham star Dele gives Conte a headache

Dele was exceptional. Joining Son and Kane in attack, Dele looked sensational – like the old no.10 bombing into the final third and scoring goals. He should have scored, but perhaps that rustiness was to blame.

It gives Conte a headache going forward. His best side is Hojbjerg and Skipp in midfield – Dele does not really fit in, unless he alters his midfield like he did today. Grealish and Aurier responded to his post.
