Jack Grealish and John Terry discuss Steve Bruce's Newcastle exit on Instagram
John Terry has sent a touching message on Instagram to Steve Bruce after his Newcastle United exit – with Jack Grealish joining in praise for Bruce.
Bruce was given his marching orders on Wednesday morning, having failed to win a single one of Newcastle’s eight Premier League matches this term.
While he clocked up 1000 games in management in his final match against Tottenham on Sunday, Bruce left after just 28 wins in 97 for the Toon.
Since then, multiple reports have circled about Bruce’s tenure and his possible replacement. Indeed, some have been critical about his treatment.
Bruce himself even said in an interview with the Telegraph that it has been difficult for him and his family – with the belief fans wanted him to fail.
Bruce of course managed both Terry and Grealish at Aston Villa. Terry – who left Villa after a coaching role in the summer – paid tribute to Bruce.
Grealish joins Terry in responding to Bruce leaving Newcastle
Ultimately, it got to the stage that Bruce had to leave Newcastle. The ex-Villa gaffer, even if harshly treated, was an emblem of the old regime.
He was one of Mike Ashley’s team. His remarks in press conferences and in the midst of the public angered Newcastle fans at times.
For Newcastle and their new owners to move forward, they had to let go of the past; Bruce was a part of that. Paulo Fonseca is favourite to replace him.
Responding to Terry and his Instagram post – Grealish labelled Bruce as a “legend” after leaving Newcastle in what might be his last ever job.
Gabby Agbonlahor believes he deserves more credit.
