West Ham United defeated Newport County 2-0 in the EFL Cup this week courtesy of Jack Wilshere and Pablo Fornals’ first-ever goals for the club.
West Ham fans also got a glimpse of a top young talent, tipped to be a star at West Ham for years to come.
The player in question is 19-year-old midfielder, Conor Coventry. He came on for the final eight minutes of the game and plenty of West Ham fans wish they could have seen more of the Republic of Ireland under-21 international.
One such West Ham fan was former Hammers midfielder, Jack Collison. He took to Twitter to share his belief in Coventry having a bright future at the London Stadium.
That’s why you gotta love the game…

Collison, who came through the ranks at West Ham and played over 100 games for the club in an injury-afflicted career, believes the teenager needs more minutes to show prove himself a first-team option to West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini.
Coventry is yet to make his Premier League debut for West Ham but was named on the bench for four games last season so is clearly on the precipice of getting his chance under Pellegrini.
Plenty of West Ham fans will be excited to see if the youngster can indeed establish himself at the club going forward.
