Jack Colback will reportedly hold talks this morning over Nottingham Forest move

Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback is expected to hold talks with Nottingham Forest over a move this morning, according to the Northern Echo.

They report that Steve Bruce is preparing for the loss of the midfielder, who spent last season out on loan at the City Ground and talks are planned today.

Colback earns £35,000 every week at St James’ Park according to Spotrac and has apparently been told he’s free to leave because Bruce has too many senior players.

He did take part in pre-season, which might have encouraged him that a Magpies reprieve would be on the cards, but that does not appear to be the case.

Colback perhaps falls into the gap of being not quite good enough for the Premier League but a good option in the Championship and had a good campaign at Forest last time around.

He would have been useful squad filler at St James’ Park, but that’s about it, so if Bruce can clear his wages off the bill and get him some regular football then the move works.

Colback worked under Martin O’Neill at the City Ground last season, but new boss Sabri Lamouchi apparently retains an interest – so we’ll see if this one gets over the line.
