Leeds United winger Jack Clarke is backing new signing Helder Costa to fire the club to the Premier League.
The Portuguese recently completed a season-long loan move to Elland Road, with the deal to turn permanent next summer.
Costa has joined the Whites following a difficult 2018/19 in which he was only able to feature in 30 games at Molineux – with a lot of those substitute appearances
He’s made a decent start with the Championship club, and youngster Clarke is excited by what he can bring.
The Tottenham Hotspur player said (quoted by Yorkshire Evening Post): “He’s a really special player as you as saw on Thursday night [vs Guiseley].
“He was obviously not at full fitness but he is still capable of magic when he is on the ball.
“He’s going to be massive for us this season and hopefully give us that little bit extra that we need to get up.”
Costa’s previous showings in the Championship should have Leeds fans encouraged.
In his first season in English football he was instrumental in dragging Wolves away from relegation, and in 2017/18 he aided their surge to the title.
There’s a good chance Clarke will prove to be correct when he says Costa can provide that little bit extra.
His electric pace and tricky footwork will be a big weapon for the Whites, and if he can provide a good final ball for the likes of Patrick Bamford and Kemar Roofe consistently, then goals will be plentiful at Elland Road.
