Jack Clarke admits Tottenham were too difficult to turn down

Jack Clarke has claimed Tottenham were too difficult to turn down following his transfer from Leeds United.

Spurs have confirmed (official website) that they have signed the 18-year-old on a four-year deal, but he will return to Leeds next season on loan.

The teenage attacker is the first signing made by the North London club since Lucas Moura in January 2018, but they will have to wait another year to watch him in action.

Clarke has played just 25 senior games for Leeds since breaking through the academy and his development will continue with them for another year, before he links up with Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs group.

The winger has tremendous pace and trickery, which has done enough to attract last season’s Champions League runners-up.

Clarke has admitted he is still trying to take in his “bizarre” move to Spurs, but is extremely excited to get going.

“I’m delighted to sign for such a top club. It’s still bizarre, I’m still getting my head around it at the moment but it was an opportunity that I couldn’t turn down,” Clarke said, as quoted by the club’s official website.

“It’s one of the biggest clubs in England if not the world at the moment. Watching them in the Champions League this season, how well they did.

“The training, the facilities and obviously the players that are here. Top, top players. I’m looking forward to getting to play with them and train with them. I’m very excited just to be able to watch them play and trying every singly day. Hopefully, I can take a few bits on board from them and progress myself.”

TBR’s View:

Spurs have managed to bag themselves an extremely promising young talent that may have a great future in the game and sending him out on loan immediately makes perfect sense.

The teenager showed glimpses of his quality at Leeds, but another season with the Yorkshire club competing for promotion will help his development massively.

Pochettino will surely keep a close eye on how the attacker does over the next year and will have to make a considerable step up if he wants to compete for a spot in the Spurs first-team eventually.
