Upon watching Manchester United this season, Jaap Stam has now confirmed his opinion on one of Erik ten Hag’s struggling signings.
Stam was speaking on the ‘Stick to Football’ podcast and wasn’t too complimentary on United’s £82m signing from Ajax.

Of course, Stam was referring to Antony who joined the club in the summer of 2022.
And having failed to have made a consistent impression at Man United, Stam was convinced that ten Hag had simply got it wrong.
Stam said: “Antony is not, I don’t think, from what I have seen from him. He is not good enough for this level we are looking for at United.
“Because you are also looking for a player when he comes in he can struggle and have a difficult time, but you are still looking at a player thinking where is he making progress so he can get to a certain level.
“When you look at Antony now, at this moment, you don’t really see where he can make the progress needed to make that next step into the Premier League to be up there with the top wingers.
“In Holland he did okay, it wasn’t like he was the best player in Holland, he did okay for Ajax but they are playing in a league with a couple of good players and the rest of the teams are, with all due respect, mediocre players so they are always dominating and he can always do his trickery and always put crosses in or make a one two.”
Jaap Stam thinks Erik ten Hag made a poor decision signing Antony for Man United
Perhaps the proof was in the pudding against Bayern Munich last night.
Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sane, two brilliant wingers for the German side, didn’t cost as much as Antony when combined.

The Brazilian simply hasn’t been value for money in any regard since arriving at Old Trafford.
And it’s particularly interesting to hear Stam’s comments explaining that Antony doesn’t seem to have much potential under ten Hag, either.
It’s obvious that the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellistri have a lot of room for improvement.
However, many fans might agree with the United icon in saying that Antony simply isn’t showing too much promise.
Rasmus Hojlund is another big-money, young signing, but the Dane is showing signs for encouragement – he’s got exciting attributes.
Of course, Stam will happily be proved wrong if Antony goes on to achieve at United, but it’s hard to disagree with this summary at present.
